Sorted Books
The Sorted Books project began in 1993 years ago and is ongoing. The project has taken place in many different places over the years, ranging form private homes to specialized public book collections. The process is the same in every case: culling through a collection of books, pulling particular titles, and eventually grouping the books into clusters so that the titles can be read in sequence, from top to bottom.

$2 Portraits Project
"...Earlier this week I decided that I was going to start a new project. I'm calling the project $2 portraits and the project works like this. From this week going forward until the day that I die I am going to offer $2 to anyone who asks me for money in exchange for their portrait. While I'm taking their portrait I'm going to ask their name and try to learn a little bit about them. I plan on doing this for the rest of my life -- assuming that I can afford to..."

The Haircut Project
Mandy and Aaron Dietz have been working on Haircut Art for two years, shooting friends and strangers at Supercuts on Fillmore.
“It’s all about the simplicity of the idea. We chose not to go to a fancy, expensive salon, because that’s a different thing. We set out to capture a basic haircut, and what that does to a person’s appearance – and spirit.” The similarities of the side-by-sides are a result of taking lots of shots to find the best match. “It’s interesting, because the pose is so straight. Your eye looks for consistencies but also finds differences.”

Questions for the Lawyer, a story by Wendy Brenner, from Esquire’s Napkin Project: “We put 250 napkins in the mail to writers from all over the country... In return, we got nearly a hundred stories. We present most of them here -- from lush to spare, hilarious to terrifying”...

Horsy ride
It all began with an artist named Scott Wayne Indiana. He knew about the horse rings in many Portland sidewalks and thought it was a shame that we don't tie our horses to them anymore. Scott decided to change that and tied his first pony to a horse ring in the fall of 2005 in the revitalized Pearl District in Northwest Portland. After a few months, he expanded the horse project and asked for some help. Now these horses are showing up all over Portland. The Horse Project

The Full Belly Project
There are around 1/2 billion people in the world that rely on peanuts as a primary source of protein. Most people can only hand shell 2 lbs (1 kg) of peanuts an hour, but The Universal Nut Sheller can do 110lbs (50 kg) an hour. It was invented by Jock Brandis at the request of a women's coop in Mali. The Full Belly Project is a non-profit organization that designs and delivers simple agricultural machines to people in developing countries around the world. (From Rivets)
