Video of Wilbur Wright demonstrating his flying machine in Italy in 1909, including the first footage ever filmed from an airplane. The two-seater plane with Wilbur Wright at the helm did a lap before an audience of photographers, army men and noteworthy moustached men and just avoided the cameraman on the ground. On Nov. 4, 1909, English pilot John Moore-Brabazon put a pig in a basket, tied it to a wing, and took off, in order to show that pigs can fly.
There are many other idioms of improbability, used to denote that something is impossible or unlikely to occur. "When hell freezes over", "When snakes smoke", etc. See also The Black swan
