I tried to drink unicum while in budapest, it's very popular, there are big advertisement campaigns for it, and it seems quite classy to drink... anyway it is CRAPPY, something beetween lawnmower bag juice and socks tea!

There is another liqueur with gold flakes suspended in it called "Danziger Goldwasser." It is real gold, but is harmless to dring and the liqueur has a taste which is similar to what you have described for the Viennse drink.
