Less than $1

99_cents The unique draw of finding a product for under a dollar has made the 99 cent store a popular fixture in Los Angeles. Synonymous with cheap, closeout, products the discount stores offer the convenience of finding the necessities at a low rate. The leader in this market is the corporate run 99cent only store, but more interesting are its imitators; often family run operations selling merchandise for 99cents “and up”

I have a great Everything's a $1 store story. I took my mother-in-law - an old country woman who was in her early 70s at the time - to the store. All of the products had different prices marked and I kept hearing her ask the salesperson, "How much is this?" (I hid, of course.) About the 20th time the lady said, "Everything's a $1" her voice became a bit irritated so I drug her out of there. Now it's a favorite family joke. ;)
