My favorite word? Cootie. It was great in third grade, and it's still a pretty good word.

There are words that are fun to say for sound ("supercilious"), words that are fun to throw into sentences for meaning ("egregious"), and words that are fun to hear from others, usually for their surprise value ("ass-backwards"). (To name but one in each category, although I certainly have no one favorite in any.)
We have discovered that studying a foreign language greatly widens the vistas of word fun, because as a language learner, one pays much more attention to words in a way that a native speaker mostly doesn't. Thus even simple words can be fun. A friend of mine loves the way the Spanish word "trabajábamos" (we used to work) rolls off the tongue in its multi-syllabic glory.
